The Executive Director of the Inter-American Organization for Higher Education <\/em>(IOHE)<\/strong>, Dr. David Julien, participated in the Plenary Session IV of the Consortium for North American Higher Education Collaboration (CONAHEC)<\/a>\u00a0annual conference,\u00a0held on March 16-18, 2016, at the Universidad Aut\u00f3noma de San Luis Potos\u00ed (UASL),<\/a>\u00a0Mexico.<\/p>\n

The 17th<\/sup>\u00a0North American Higher Education Conference\u00a0<\/em>Global Grand Challenges: Channeling International Collaboration<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>was\u00a0attended by experts from the region and around the world.<\/p>\n

In the framework of the Plenary Session IV, entitled “Regionalization of internationalization in North America”, Dr. Julien shared the panel with Karl Knutson-Miller, Associate Vice President of International Programs and Global Commitment, of California State University, Fullerton; Colin Doerr, Director of Communications and Programs, of the British Columbia Center for International Education (BCCIE); and Ismael Crott\u00e9, representing Gustavo Padilla, Director of Higher Education, Research and Graduate of the Government of the State of Jalisco, Mexico.<\/p>\n

The speakers, representing all three countries of North America, spoke about several cases in which the internationalization regionalization phenomena\u00a0has forced to create and develop new models of cooperation. They also shared their experiences and the successes obtained in this process, at the time they identified the challenges faced.\u00a0“The budgetary constraints of our organizations require us to work together and extend our borders,” Dr. Julien said.<\/p>\n

CONAHEC and IOHE are, along with the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE), founding associations of the Conference of the Americas on International Education (CAIE). Currently, this initiative has 27 members and its Executive Secretariat, located in the IOHE, works on the fifth edition of the event, which will take place on October 11-13, 2017, in Montreal, Canada.<\/p>\n
